PE Equipment

  • 3 hoops
  • 1 large mat or cones – for the pirate’s island
  • 1-2 bibs/saches for pirate

Set up

  1. Place the cones in the corner of the games area and scatter the hoops.
  2. One person the private (tagger) and wears the bib/sash.
  3. They start in the marked out area in the corner called Pirate Island
  4. The rest of the students are dodgers and space anywhere in the games area (This is where you can talk about starting stance and orientation)
  5. The hoops are life boats and can be used as a safe space for the dodgers

Playing the PE game

  • When a dodger gets tagged by the pirate the dodger goes to Pirate Island.
  • Once the dodger is at Pirate Island they are a prisoner. The prisioner has their hand out ready for a high five. If another dodger manages to make it to Pirate Island without getting tagged they can quickly high five a prisioner and set them free.
  • Dodgers can find safety in the ‘life boats’ but only for three seconds. Only one dodger is allowed in each hoop at a time.
  • The game ends when all dodgers are captured on Pirate Island or you can set a time limit and see how many prisoners have been tagged by the pirate.

A Dodger can only tag /set free one prisoner at a time. However, a prisoner whose just been tagged is allowed to free another prisoner.

This is a risk as the pirate may put them in prison again.
