What is a stance or stand point?
Our stance or standpoint is important as it helps us prepare for and respond to different situations and challenges that arise throughout the day.
Our stance needs to be balanced and adaptable.
A good starting point to orient ourselves is to aspire to be a person who can act reasonably in most situations, especially when others aren’t.
When others aren’t being reasonable is often a great time to challenge how reasonable you can be.
The best virtues we can have ready at hand to help us frame any situation are:
- Courage – act accordingly towards the taught
- Temperance – a calmness and balance/ Sound mindedness
- Justice – making fair decisions
“How we turn up so we are aimed to the north (good) with different tools ‘ready at hand’ to help us throughout the day to help reorientate when necessary.”
How to start teaching orientation in Physical Education?
In a space awareness/tag/invasion game, how can we show a good starting stance to show “I’m engaged and ready to go!”
What could we expect to see, what could we try?
- Eyes scanning
- The space we start in – and area to give us time to make good decisions
- A stance that is balanced so we can drive in any direction quickly and get our feet moving when ready.
- I have enough balance to move forward if needed, I can backtrack if needed
- We want our energy up and active
What manner are you showing to say you have everything in proper proportion and I’m ready for the day ahead
Sport or a game is a great time to use and put into practice our main virtues if we need to frame a situation
